Court Remands 38-Year-Old Man For Allegedly Killing Stepmother In Ebonyi
An Ebonyi State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abakaliki, has remanded a 38-year-old man, identified as Elom Maduka, in Abakaliki correctional center for allegedly killing his stepmother, Augustina Odio.
The incident happened in Amohu village, Ezillo community, in the Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.
According to the report, the suspect attacked the victim on June 12, 2020, on her farm, inflicting machete injuries which resulted in her death
Maduka alleged that the victim was attacking him in his dreams and telling him she was responsible for his lack of progress.

During the trial, the police prosecutor, ASP Mathias Eze, confirmed the incident to the court, adding that the offense contravenes Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009, are punishable by the law.
The charge read, “That you, Elom Odio Maduka, on June 12, 2020, at the Amohu Ezillo community in the jurisdiction of this honorable court, did cause the death of one Augustina Odio, 50, by inflicting machete cuts on her head and legs, thereby committing an offense punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.”
Delivering the judgment, the chief magistrate, Nnenna Onuoha, adjourned the case until July 15, 2020, ordering that the accused be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Abakaliki, while his case file transferred to the Director of Public Prosecutions in the state.
