Ondo Deputy Gov, Ajayi Gives Governor Akeredolu 21 Days To Hand-Over To Him
The Ondo State, Deputy Governor, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, gives his boss Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s 21 days to hand over to him as Acting governor.
This action was prompted by the state Governor Akeredolu’s COVID-19 positive status.
On June 30, Akeredolu was confirmed COVID-19 positive, but rather than hand over to the deputy governor amid his treatment, the governor insisted on treating and attending to files.

Mr. Ajayi alleged that Akeredolu’s COVID-19 status, which returned positive proves that he is incapacitated.
According to the Deputy Governor, who spoke through his Media Adviser, Mr. Allen Sowore, “it should be noted that Mr. Governor is at liberty to handover or not within 21 days after which the constitution becomes operational.
“Ostensibly, the refusal and failure of Mr. Governor to handover the running of government to his Deputy while he is temporarily incapacitated in self-isolation underscore his absolute disregard for our nation’s supreme document, 1999 Constitution (as amended) as well as the tenets of the rule of law.
” The Governor’s position is a spite on the Ondo State people and a direct assault on the provisions of the constitution which he swore to uphold.”
In a statement on Friday, Mr. Akeredolu alleged that his Deputy is a threat to his governance.
He added that Ajayi had left his former party APC stressing that he wouldn’t hand over governance to Mr. Ajayi.
Meanwhile, on June 21, 2020, Mr. Ajayi had resigned as an APC member to join the people’s Democratic Party PDP.
Upon his resignation, Mr. Ajayi alleged that he was not going to resign for his position as the Deputy Governor of the state.
