UPDATED: Umar Resumes As EFCC’s Acting Chairman
Mohammed Umar, the head of operations at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has resumed work as the acting chairman of the agency.
This is coming after President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the suspension of the acting chairman of the anti-graft agency, Ibrahim Magu.
Before his new position, Umar, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, was the second most senior official at the agency.
Ekohotblog earlier reported that Umar was nominated to oversee the affairs of the agency in absence of Ibrahim Magu.
Recall that a top official of the commission, while speaking to NAN on Tuesday, said Umar was chosen by the “EFCC’s hierarchy”.
It was reported that there was a move from some sections in government for the Secretary of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, to be selected as acting chairman pending the completion of the ongoing probe of the former acting chairman Ibrahim Magu or the appointment of a new helmsman.

Unfortunately, the move was strongly opposed and it failed woefully because Olukoyede is a civilian.
