President Muhammadu Buhari appoints Mohammed Umar as acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to oversee the commission pending the trial period of the commission’s former chairman, Ibrahim Magu.
The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) stated these on Friday in a statement by his spokesman, Umar Gwandu.
Gwandu also announced the suspension of the former EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu to allow for an unhindered inquiry by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act and other relevant laws.

The statement reads in part: “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate suspension of Ibrahim Magu as Ag. Chairman EFCC to allow for an unhindered inquiry by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act and other relevant laws.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has also approved that the EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, should take charge and oversee the activities of the Commission pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation and further directives in that regard.”
The former Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, was arrested by the Department of State Services at the Wuse II office of the DSS and is now undergoing interrogation over his N40m mansion and other fraudulent involvement.
