A Lot Of Chelsea’s Transfers Don’t Make Sense — Rio Ferdinand
-
Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand speaks on Chelsea activity in the transfer market lately.
-
The Blues have seen players signed in with the West London club boasting a foray of a squad.
-
However, the transfer activity of Chelsea hasn’t yield the needed result for the club, with Rio Ferdinand question a lot of decisions being made by the club.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United defender, has criticized Chelsea’s recent transfer signings, stating that the balance in the squad isn’t there. The Blues spent approximately £600 million in two transfer windows under Todd Boehly, with a deal in place to sign RB Leipzig forward, Christopher Nkunku, for £53 million.
Nkunku, who scored 35 goals in all competitions last season and has scored 17 in all competitions this season, has not been playing as a traditional striker. Ferdinand doesn’t feel convinced that the Frenchman is the answer to Chelsea’s lack of goals.

During a BT Sport appearance, Ferdinand said, “They’ve got Nkunku coming in the summer, but again he’s not an out-and-out number nine. He’s coming up as a young player coming off the wide areas or playing as a 10 in a free role behind the striker. So the balance in the squad isn’t there.”
Ferdinand’s critique comes at a time when Chelsea’s recent performances have been inconsistent, and their lack of goals has been a cause for concern. The Blues were defeated in their recent Champions League encounter with Real Madrid, and in the Premier League by Wolverhampton Wanderers which sees them languishing in the 11th position.
Chelsea’s lack of a reliable goal scorer has been a major issue this season, with Kai Havertz, Joao Felix and their forward line all failing to produce needed goals for the team proves worrying for the Blues. The signing of Nkunku is expected to provide competition and provide Chelsea with more attacking options.

However, Ferdinand believes that the balance in the squad needs to be addressed if Chelsea is to challenge for major honors next season. With the summer transfer window fast approaching, it remains to be seen whether the Blues will address their issues and make the necessary signings to improve the balance of the squad.
