Abayomi Tella has been elected as the new chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Tella officially assumed the role during the party’s state convention in Abeokuta on Saturday, which was overseen by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Following his victory, Tella expressed his dedication to revitalizing, reconstructing, and enhancing the party’s standing within the state, aiming to restore its legacy as a dominant political force.
He emphasized that the true identity of the PDP is not merely that of an opposition party but rather a formidable governing entity.
Tella believes that the party’s return to power is imminent and should occur in the upcoming elections. He reflected on the party’s recent challenges, including internal conflicts and legal disputes, but remained hopeful for reconciliation and progress.

“Our true identity is not one of opposition. We are on the brink of returning to our heritage as a ruling party, and this must happen in the next polls,” Tella stated.
He credited the success of the congress to various influential individuals who played key roles in this God-ordained endeavor.
“With the grace of God, Ogun State PDP will be rejuvenated, rebuilt, revamped, and repositioned for success in the upcoming elections,” he added.
Tella expressed gratitude to the outgoing executives, noting, “We need each other, and working together again should neither be difficult nor impossible.”

He highlighted that the 2027 project is a primary focus for the newly elected executive, calling for collective effort from all members.
Regarding the party’s agenda, Tella mentioned that the executive will implement policies and strategies aimed at fostering internal cohesion and unity. Additionally, the party will work to expand its membership by actively promoting its commitment to bringing much-needed relief to the people of Ogun State.
On August 31, 2024, Dada Awoleye presided over the state ward congress as the caretaker chairman of the PDP in Ogun State. Naija News notes that Awoleye succeeded Sikirulai Ogundele, who reportedly had conflicts with Ladi Adebutu, the party’s governorship candidate in the last general election.
