EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has urged security services to rescue abducted passengers on the Abuja-Kaduna train three weeks ago.

This was revealed to State House correspondents by the National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno, following the first 2022 meeting of the National Security Council, which was chaired by the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Monguno stated that the President asked all security agencies to work together to secure the abducted passengers’ safety.

“Mr President has commanded all operational and intelligence elements to rescue these innocent persons immediately and without harm,” he said. This is the foundation upon which other topics were considered

“The President is using that as a reference point to let the security agencies know that they have an obligation to get every innocent soul that is in captivity, out of captivity. He is not particular just about the Kaduna incident, but about all other incidents.

“Now, the mode and manner in which they will be saved are beyond my comprehension.” It’s not something I’m willing to reveal because doing so could jeopardize our efforts.”

The NSA explained why security agents have been unable to invade terrorist hideouts in Kaduna since the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, announced knowledge of their whereabouts. Such comments only allow the terrorists to change base, making rescue efforts difficult.

“Governor Nasir El-Rufai spoke about the security agencies, saying we know who they are, where they are. Again, that is the danger. When you start talking too much, you give away a lot. Now, even if they say we know where they are, that in itself is already a problem.

“Whether true or false, once you say it, the person who has your people captive will shift to another area.” That’s all there is to it. So, sometimes it’s best to just keep quiet; the word is “mum,” Monguno remarked.

The deployment of people to places such as the Abuja-Kaduna Road, according to the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, is more complicated than it appears.

Baba added that the Force frequently relies on people from other states to supplement the police officers and officers stationed in Kaduna.

“Deployment is defined by a variety of issues or yardsticks,” he explained. Just as two states may have a different number of local governments, so may the number of formations in that state or formation. We have formations, commands, and zonal commands, among other things.

“As a result, deployment should not be predicated on the size, number of people, or threat assessment tool of that location.” It all comes down to how you police a specific area based on the number of people you have and your ability to amass that manpower.”
