Abducted Students: NANS Makes Move To Secure Release -

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the government to use all means necessary to rescue abducted university and secondary school students from captivity.

According to reports, two female Microbiology students from the Federal University, Gusau in Zamfara, and ten female secondary school students from Kachia Local Government Area in Kaduna State are being held by kidnappers.

Vanessa Kwere, the Deputy Coordinator of Inter-Campus Affairs of NANS Zone A, made the appeal in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday after a NANS delegation met with the management of the university shortly after the union’s zonal convention held in Jigawa recently.

Kwere emphasized that the call for rescue became imperative as the abducted students were under the care of the government and therefore remained the property of the government.

“We were notified of the sad news regarding the abduction of two 200-level female students of the Microbiology Department, Federal University, Gusau. It is indeed a heart-touching incident, we had to stop by to pay a solidarity visit, to also sympathize with the institution on this incident. We urge the students to remain calm and keep praying for the safe return of their friends and sisters,” Kwere said.

During the meeting with the university management, including the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ahmad Galadima, the current Deputy Vice Chancellor of the university, and other officials, they discussed the incident, as well as the strategies being currently applied to rescue the abducted students.

Kwere also noted that the Dean of Student Affairs had informed them of the efforts made by the university to ensure the safe return of the students. The Acting Vice Chancellor assured the NANS delegation that the university was doing its best to maintain security within the institution and that frantic efforts were being intensified to rescue the abducted students.
