Eko Hot Blog reports that Chairman, Nigerians In Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has applauded Real Madrid star, David Olatokunbo Alaba, for his generosity.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Alaba, who plies his trade in the Spanish top-flight, donated a bio-degradable toilet facility to the Ogun State government.
The Real Madrid defender’s gesture, which came through the David Alaba Foundation, was geared towards ending open defecation at Kara market in the Ogere Remo axis of Ogun State. Notably, Alaba’s father hails from Ogere in Ogun.
In a tweet via her verified Twitter handle, Dabiri-Erewa thanked the footballer for the donation, noting that the move was in support of the Nigerian government’s effort to end open defecation in the country.
The NIDCOM boss also disclosed Alaba’s plan to build a football training centre in Nigeria.
“A big thanks for the facility donated by the David Alaba Foundation at Kara Market, Ogere Remo, Ogun State to support FGN’s move to end open defecation. David is also planning a football training centre in Nigeria,” she tweeted.
The David Alaba Foundation collaborated with Organised Private Sector in Water Sanitation and Hygiene (OPS-WASH), Clean Nigeria Campaign (CNC) and NIDCOM to deliver the toilet facility, which reportedly cost more than N13,000.
Meanwhile, Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, has called for more private sector involvement and support in the federal government’s quest to end Open Defecation in Nigeria.
During the commissioning of the toilet facility at Kara market, Adamu reaffirmed th CNC’s commitment to mobilising high-level political support, resources, and the entire populace towards building a new culture of safe sanitation.
He added that it was the Nigerian government’s wish to end the practice of open defecation by 2025.
