Abike Dabiri Reacts as Kelechi Ndukwe Becomes First Nigerian To Command Us Navy War Ship

Kelechi Ndukwe has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Nigerian to command a U.S. Navy warship.

On Thursday, August 29, 2024, Ndukwe was promoted to the rank of Navy Captain in the U.S. Navy, marking a significant moment in his distinguished career.

The announcement was celebrated on X by U.S. Army Officer Victor Agunbiade, who shared photos from the promotion ceremony and wrote, “Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the newest U.S. Navy Captain, Kelechi Ndukwe—the first Nigerian to command a U.S. Navy warship! Congratulations on your promotion, Captain! Well deserved.”

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, also took to X to congratulate Ndukwe, stating, “A hearty congratulations to Navy Captain Kelechi R. Ndukwe on his promotion to Navy Captain from Commander in the U.S. Navy.”
