Abike Dabiri Vows To Get Justice For Nigerians Wrongfully Detained In Italian Prisons

  • The NiDCOM Chairman has promised justice for Nigerians currently languishing in Italian prisons for trumped up charges.

The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa has vowed to ensure that justice is served to over 300 Nigerians currently being detained in Italian prisons without actionable proof of alleged crimes levelled against them.

This was contained in a statement signed by Gabriel Odu of NIDCOM’s Media Public and Relations Unit in Abuja on Wednesday, August 18, 2021.

As gathered by Eko Hot Blog, Abike Dabiri was speaking during a visit by Former Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Diaspora Affairs, Hon. Osaze Osemwegie-Ero, who lamented that over 300 Nigerians are said to be languishing in Italian prisons for alleged crimes with no evidence or proof of guilt.

Osaze who spent 18 months in Italian prison for an offence he claims to have no knowledge of, says his case was as a result of racial discrimination and manipulation of the Italian justice system which is notorious for putting black immigrants behind bars for fictitious and trumped up charges.

“I was alleged a Mafia kingpin and on that course was detained, upon demand for an evidence, a manual called the ‘Green Bible’ was presented which was obviously forged”, he said, adding that some Nigerians have been sentenced to 140 years imprisonment for the same Nigerian mafia accusation, citing article 416b of Italian Mafia law.

The Former Commissioner also said he has perfected plans to lead a peaceful protest for the release of other innocent Nigerians illegally detained in Italian prisons. He appealed to the Federal Government to assist in ensuring that all Nigerians who are currently being detained illegally in Italian prisons are wrestled free from the claws of a skewed justice system.

Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa empathized with Mr Osemwegie-Ero on his debauching ordeal and assured that justice will be served for others who are wrongly accused.

The NiDCOM Boss pledged that no Nigerian will be made the poster-child for human discrimination, regardless of whatever geographical milieu he finds himself.

Abike Dabiri further stated that the Commission will liaise with the office of the Attorney-General to ensure that all those currently being ensnared in the gnawing jaws of this injustice are spoken for.
