It was a moment to remember as the entire Epe division and Lagos State converged in the Oregun area of Lagos, on Wednesday, for the 70th birthday celebration of a former Commissioner, Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Abiola Anifowoshe.
The colourful ceremony was well attended by prominent personalities such as Member of the House of Representatives, representing Epe Federal Constituency, Hon Wale Raji; former speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji; Wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, represented by Alhaj Azeezat Tijani; and Former Commissioner, Local Government Service Commission, Lagos State, Mr Olabode Garbadeen.
Also present to celebrate Anifowoshe were Oba Samuel Alamu Oloyede, Onikosi of Ikosi; Oba Michael Adesegun Bakare, Onikoro of Ikoro; Aremo of Epe land, Otunba T.J. Abass; and Islamic leaders led by a Chief Imam of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh Abdul Jelili Durojaiye.
The celebration, which began with a prayer session for Anifowoshe was taken by one of the clerics, Ustaz Ismail Atuli, and was rounded off with a lecture by the Islamic preacher and the Missioner, Sheikh Durojaiye.
The cleric, who describe Anifowoshe as a God-fearing and amiable person, prayed for him and his family and urged him to continue in his deeds of kindness to humanity.
He asked the celebrant to hold on to a verse of the Quran, Chapter 22 verse 5, which he read to urge him and everyone to never have a doubt about the resurrection.
Wasiu Abiola Anifowose is an architect and renowned town planner of over 30 years. He bagged BSc in Architecture from Howard University, Washington DC, the USA in 1979, where he also bagged MSc in the same field in 1980. He also had MSc in City and Regional Planning, at the same university, in 1987.
He’s a fellow of the Institute of Town Planning. He joined the Lagos state government in March 1985, became General Manager before retiring in 2012, at the mandatory age of 60. Now, he is back as a commissioner in the same ministry where he had worked for 27 years.
Anifowoshe is a fellow and Chairman (Lagos Chapter) of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planning and an active member of several other professional bodies that are Town Planning or Architecture based. He is a socialite and belongs to no less than seven clubs in Lagos and Epe, notably; Epe Premier Circle (his first club in Epe), Epe Ogunmodede Club, The Dynamic Horizon of Nigeria, Lagos Civil Service Club etc.

He is also a member of the Nasrul-lahi-li Fathi Society of Nigeria (NAFSAT), where he served as National Project Secretary for two terms.
Because of his philanthropist disposition, he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Okanlomo of Epe Kingdom by HRM, the immediate past Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom. He is a generous giver and loved by many Epe Indigenes, especially the youths.
