Four Rescued: Details Of Abuja Collapsed Building Emerge

Eko Hot Blog reports that four individuals have been rescued alive from the rubble of a collapsed two-storey building located beside Cupid Hotel on Sultan Dansuki Road, Phase 2, Site 2, in the Kubwa area of Bwari Area Council, Abuja. Of those rescued, two have been transported to the Kubwa General Hospital for treatment.

The FCT Emergency Management Department (FCT-EMD) reported that efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue any remaining individuals trapped in the debris. This search and rescue operation involves the combined efforts of security agencies and dedicated volunteers.

Emergency response teams from the FCT-EMD, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), FCT Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Civil Defense Corps, and the Nigeria Police are all actively engaged at the scene of the incident.

According to a statement by Nkechi Isa, Head of Public Affairs for FCT-EMD, the collapsed building is a residential structure comprising 45 self-contained rooms.

Nkechi further disclosed that it was previously used as a hotel before it was converted for residential purposes.

The Acting Director General of FEMD, Mrs Florence Dawon Wenegieme, who is at the incident scene, said search and rescue efforts would remain ongoing until the last person is removed ‘if at all there is still someone trapped in the rubble”, The Nation quoted.

The Director-General of FEMD said the use of substandard building materials by some developers was one of the reasons for the re-occurring collapse of buildings.

Mrs Wenegieme called for strict compliance and action against developers who use substandard building materials. She said most cases of building collapses can be avoided if developers use standard materials.
