Despite the government’s offer of a 100% increase, the labour unions rejected it, leading to a two-day strike.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the lawmaker representing Ekiti Central senatorial district and Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, on Sunday, appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to accept the federal government’s offer of a new minimum wage above ₦60,000.
Bamidele called on organized labour to pursue dialogue and peace in the ongoing minimum wage negotiations, which President Bola Tinubu has promised to formalize with a bill to the National Assembly. He emphasized the importance of Nigerians demonstrating patriotic spirit and unity as the nation navigates its socio-political journey.

“The federal government has promised to make more concessions in this respect. As the federal government reveals its new offer, I plead with organised labour to accept it in the national interest.
“The economy will remain in this condition. Collectively, we are taking multi-pronged measures to reverse disturbing economic indicators.”
