For example, he was a lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU) and quickly rose to be a member of the University Senate before he was 30.
Hon. Opeifa did not jump into the life of service by accident, he had great teachers at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) where he received his first degree. In an interview in 2014, just after he clocked 49, the former commissioner said he cherished his days at the Kwara-based federal university.
“That university prepared me for what I am today. The philosophy, I went through two vice chancellors – Professor Afolani Togun and Professor Adeniyi. At every matriculation and convocation, they would remind us that we are in University of Ilorin and that the university was created to develop a total man,” he said.
“That the university was built on the concept of the development of totality of man. They told us that we are being trained to go to the society not to operate on the level of particular degree you got. But to operate in any sphere we are found.”
The former commissioner also recounted his active social life that included being involved with several clubs and partying. Nevertheless, he graduated with a Second Class (Upper Division) degree, displaying his brilliance.
He says the greatest lesson life has taught him is to believe in God, wait for his time, seek his face and his understanding. He says the second lesson is to work hard. He adds that the third lesson is not to be money-conscious. “When you put money at the forefront of so many issues, you will get power-drunk. When you have money, please, use it well. It is not your property. It’s kept in your care so that it can be used for others,” the politician said.
Hon. Opeifa, who is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Restoration of Law and Order in Apapa, embodies these three lessons which have helped him impact lives.
Little wonder he has enjoyed prayers and good wishes from various quarters on his 58th birthday. Agege TV, a Lagos-based media organisation, congratulated the celebrant on social media, praying for his welfare.
“Happy Birthday to Comrade Kayode Opeifa you will live long to celebrate many years on earth and in good health,” the message reads.
“As add another Year to your years on earth. Long life, sound health and abundance of wealth shall be added unto you by your creator.”
A Chicago-based group, Lagosians of Chicago, also joined many others in wishing the former Lagos West senatorial aspirant a happy birthday and long life.
