Lagos State deputy governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, says professionals in the accounting fields have contributed significantly to the development and growth of the state in numerous ways.
Hamzat gave the verdict on Saturday when he spoke at Inauguration of the District and Investiture of High Chief Olufemi Charles Keshinro ( FCA ) as the pioneer Chairman of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria ( ICAN ), Epe & District Society.
Speaking at the event which held at Jubilee Chalets Epe, Hamzat hailed Accountants in Lagos State, adding that they have been of massive assistance to the state government through their fiscal and financial inputs which have played a huge role in provision of infrastructural facilities and social amenities in the state
The number two man, who was represented by Hon Akeem Shittu, Permanent Board Member, LASUBEB, in his goodwill message, expressed his delight at the establishment of ICAN in Epe District.
“In Lagos State, we hold in high esteem our accountants because they assist government in driving effective financial accounting process which have impacts on the several projects we see around us in the State.”
Speaking further, Obafemi Hamzat opined that the establishment of the ICAN in Epe District was a laudable achievement which will bring a sense of belonging to all members around Epe community.
The establishment of ICAN in Epe, he said, would to a large extent help act as an interface between members and the umbrella body. He also noted that it will encourage grassroots mobilization of members, networking and effective communication of the institute’s objectives and activities.
The Deputy Governor said he was happy that indigenous sons and daughters of Epe are making landmark achievements with the expected global best practices as Chartered Accountants.
“I am happy that here in Epe, we have our prominent sons and daughters both in the public and private sectors who are making us proud as Chartered Accountants and are truly upholding the ethics, standard and competence expected of accountants in the world “, he stated.
The former Lagos Commissioner for Works was confident that the institute will help to achieve better financial accountability, transparency and reduce corruption.
He charged Accountants from Epe to stand out and be known for excellence anywhere they find themselves and hoped the establishment of the district will serve as a veritable platform to achieve such.
He also admonished other professional bodies in Epe to emulate the ICAN initiative while also assuring that the present administration will continue to assist and offer necessary advice to ensure the progress of the District in Epe.
Notable dignitaries at the event include Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara Epe Division, Oba Onitasin of Itasin, Imobi, Ogun State, Dr Abiodun Muritala, Accountant General of Lagos, Mrs Helen, Deile, Auditor General of Lagos, Dame Onome Adewuyi, ICAN President and others.
