Accomplished accountants and accounting heavyweights in the Nigerian public and private sector stormed Epe on Saturday for the Inauguration of The District & Investiture of High Chief Charles Olufemi Keshinro as the 1st Chairman of ICAN Epe & District Society & Swearing-In of the Executive Committee.
The occasion, which held on Saturday 17th April 2021, at jubilee chalet in Epe was graced by who’s who in the accounting profession.
Among those present are ICAN 56th President, Mrs Dame Onome Adewuyi, ICAN Past President, Mr Doyin Owolabi, ICAN Honourable Treasurer, Mr Tobi Abiola, Lagos Accountant General, Dr Abiodun Muritala, Lagos Auditor General, Mrs Helen Deile, Lagos SUBEB Board Member, Hon Hakeem Shittu and a host of others.
Speaking at the event, the ICAN Epe District & Society Deputy Chairman, Mr Stephen Adekunle Otusemade, in his welcome address, appreciated the 56th President of the Institute, Mrs Dame Onome Adewuyi, for her remarkable role in securing approval for the establishment of the Institute in Epe.
This, he said, has spurred the desires and aspirations of Chartered Accountants in the Division, to give back to the society and partake in the socio-economic development of the area as well as promoting Accountancy profession in Epe Division.
He therefore appreciated the unflinching support of Mrs Funmi Deile and Dr Muritala Abiodun, Lagos Auditor General and Accountant General respectively. He also noted the great sacrifices of committee members and sponsors.
Ekohotblog reports that the special guest of honour and ICAN Past President, Mr Doyin Owolabi, amongst many other things promised to give a scholarship to a boy and a girl in the secondary school who have distinguished themselves in the Catch Them Young Project of the District. He revealed that the conditions for the scholarship are that the students must be indigenes of Epe, must be ready to embark on ATS and must be academically sound. On their presentation, he said he’ll release the disbursement cheque to the District Society. He also revealed that ICAN as a body assists members who are in distress from time to time.
Speaking in the gathering, the Chief Host and 56th ICAN President, Mrs Dame Onome Joy Adewuyi FCA, expressed amazement at the depth of knowledge exhibited by the Alara of Ilara Kingdom while in his palace to pay homage.
The high point of the event was the investiture of the Pioneer Chairman, High Chief Charles Olufemi Keshinro FCA by the 56th President, Mrs Dame Onome Adewuyi, which was preceded by the inauguration of the new district.
In his acceptance speech, High Chief Charles Keshinro appreciated God for making ICAN Epe District a dream come true. The dream came to fruition on 25th July, 2020 with the guidance of Ikorodu & Districts Society Chairman, Mr Abiodun Akinwobi FCA
Speaking further, Keshinro noted that the District will strive to be a point of good reference in areas such as; Transparent Leadership, Financial Commitment, Training, Conference Attendance and MCPE Participation.
Keshinro therefore disclosed the Star Project for 2021/2022 which is the Acquisition of Landed Property for ICAN Activities and Exam Center. He also rolled out the District Impact Activities for year 2021/2022 which includes; Community Relations, Membership Growth and Capacity Building, Community Educational Support, Creation of a Functional Website for the District Society and Work on the Establishment of ICAN Training/Tuition Schools in Epe Division.
Ekohotblog reports that the Alara of Ilara Kingdom and Royal Father of the Day, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, earlier gave his royal blessings and prayed fervently for the newly inaugurated Chairman. The event also featured an awards presentation to some dignitaries and organizations which include Hon Akeem Shittu, Lagos Internal Revenue Service ( LIRS) LARALEK Ultimate Limited amongst others.
The event came to a close with other activities which includes swearing-in of new executives, cutting the inauguration cake, cultural display and fundraising for the star projects. The closing remarks was said by the representative of the Deputy Governor of Lagos, Hon Hakeem Shittu while the vote of thanks and closing prayer followed suit.
