Eko Hot Blog reports that Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will be quizzed by the Department of State Services (DSS) over his role when he was the Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate of the apex bank.
Shonubi was appointed as the acting governor of the CBN by President Bola Tinubu in June following the suspension of Godwin Emefiele as the CBN Governor.
He is expected to hand over to Dr Olayemi Cardoso who was on Friday appointed as the substantive governor of the CBN pending his confirmation by the Senate.
Speaking on Saturday, a presidency source said just like the other directors who have been grilled, Shonubi may be called to answer questions based on some revelations by Emefiele and his role as the head of Operations of the CBN.
“Yes, I believe there won’t be any sacred cow as far as the investigations are concerned. You are aware that the deputy governors have been called to answer questions. Not only them, Abbas Umar Masanawa, the CEO of Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) who was also a one-time MD of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC) was also picked up”.
“The acting governor may not have been invited before now because they do not want to distract him from his job. But now that he will be handing over to the new CBN governor, he will definitely be invited if the need arises, to answer questions on his role as the Operations Director of the CBN. There is no way Emefiele can operate as CBN governor without the knowledge of the Head of Operations. It is the engine room of any agency” our source said.
Our correspondent also gathered that Emefiele who is currently facing trial over a N6.9 billion corruption charges at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama has already entered a plea bargain with the Federal Government and has promised to make some refunds.
