Eko Hot Blog reports that Super Nigerian forward, Ademola Lookman is aiming to help Atalanta secure a UEFA Champions League spot, either by climbing the Serie A standings or winning the Europa League trophy.

Continuing his impressive streak, the 26-year-old showcased his form in Atalanta’s 2-0 victory against Empoli at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday.

Lookman found the net for Atalanta’s second goal in the 51st minute, following an earlier assist for Mario Pasalic’s strike.

Atalanta currently sit in the sixth place in Serie A, having accumulated 57 points from 33 matches.

They trail Roma by two points, with Roma having played one more game.

With the upcoming new UEFA Champions League format set to debut next season, Serie A will secure five qualification spots.

As things stand, Roma would claim one of these spots if the standings stay unchanged.

Atalanta also has the opportunity to secure a Champions League spot by winning the Europa League, where they are currently in the semifinals.

Their last participation in the Champions League was two seasons ago.

Lookman, reflecting on Atalanta’s recent victory, highlighted the significance of the win against Empoli.

“This victory is very important because we have to reach the Champions League. We also have commitments in the Italian Cup and the Europa League, winning today was important,” Lookman told DAZN as reported by Tuttoatalanta.

When asked about the tough competition from Roma, Lookman expressed confidence that Atalanta is prepared for the challenge as they pursue victories in both the Europa League and the Italian Cup.

He said, “Yes, Roma are a strong team but so are we. We know that every match is difficult but we are ready to try to win them all,”

Concerning the Europa League semi-final clash with Olympique Marseille, Lookman added.

“It will be a difficult match but we are confident that we can achieve a positive result and then we will see.”

Also, Atalanta prepares to take on Marseille in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals.
