By Gbenga Kaka

Chairperson of All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools ( ANCOPSS ), Epe branch, Jonah Beatrice Olayinka has caution parents against sacrificing adequate attention and proper upbringing of their children on the altar of material accomplishments.

Olayinka gave the admonition in an interview with Eko Hot Blog on the sideline of a get together organised by Association of Retired Principals of Secondary Schools of Nigeria (ARPSSON).

As a mother and educator whose experience spans several decades, she advised parents and guardians not to loose guard in monitoring their children or wards against any for of abuse or molestation.

Olayinka, who is also the Principal of Epe Girls Junior High School, Epe, also noted that children should be given what is rightfully theirs and that parents should refrain from abusing their children in any guise.

” I want to advise parents that they should be very vigilant in watching over their children. I know at times it is impossible because of work. Although nobody is to be trusted but you should find time take care of your underage children so they won’t fall victim of abuse.

“The devil has taken control and because of that, parents have to be careful with their children so that they will not be molested. Parents should also refrain from abusing and neglecting their children, whatever is their right, give unto them “, she said.

Jonah further stated that her journey has been so stressful as ANCOPSS chairman. She averred that apart from the honour that comes with the office, leading requires a lot of coordinating abilities.

” Apart from the prestige, it saps a whole lot of energy, it requires a lot of coordinating activities to be able to coordinate all the Principals and you know it could be very frustrating. It has not been easy, it takes a lot of efforts “, she said.

In her final words, she offered an insight as to what should be expected from her office in 2021, she  noted that events in 2020 forced their hands and made actualising some of their objectives a tall order.

She, however, promised that 2021 will be a tremendous year.

” Well, God knows, we are really doing our best at ANCOPPS level when it comes to the welfare of our members and 2021 will surely be a better year than 2020 because we don’t really have much time.
Coronavirus and ENDSARS took the most part of 2020 and by God’s grace 2021 will be a glorious year, a year of upliftment and other positive things. So, expect good things from ANCOPSS, Epe Zone “, she said.
