Adetoun Sote, Wife Of Punch Columnist Laid To Rest

Adetoun Sote, wife of popular Punch newspaper columnist, Lekan Sote, was on Saturday laid to rest at her home town, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Ekohotblog understands that Adetoun passed away on December 19th 2019 at the age of 59.

The commendation service was held at the Redeemed Christian Church of Christ (RCCG), The Lifespring Parish, Etal Avenue, Oregun, Lagos.

In his tribute to his wife, the veteran journalist described the late Adetoun as “a total lady and a woman after his heart.”

“The last few years of our lives had been of continuous revelation of new things about each other. And we both knew that only death could separate us. The only promise she didn’t keep was to die before me.

“I thank Prof Fola Aboaba and Dr Yejide Aboaba for giving Toun to me. Toun was a total lady, a woman after my heart, and I could never have enough of her,” he said.

Adetoun was born on April 27th 1961 in England to Prof Folagbade Aboaba, whose grandfather was Aboaba, first Balogun or Generallisimo of Egbaland. Adetoun attended University of Ibadan Staff School for elementary school, before she proceeded to St. Louis School, also in Ibadan.

She completed her Higher School Certificate education at the prestigious International School Ibadan while she obtained both her Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science and Master of Library Science degree from the University of Ibadan.

She worked at the library of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State and was a pioneer librarian of Daily Independent newspaper, Ikeja, Lagos.

She was a voice-over artist and musician with songs like “Naija Calypso” which she retitled “Jesus Calypso” amongst others.

She is survived by two sons, Kasope and Toju, her husband, Lekan Sote, and siblings.
