EKO HOT BLOG reports that scores of students from Adeyemi College of Education in Ondo, Ondo State, staged a protest on Friday over the lack of basic amenities on campus. The students expressed their displeasure with the management of the institution, accusing them of being insensitive to their needs.
During the protest, the students blocked the main gate of the college as well as the busy Ondo-Ore Expressway. The demonstration caused a traffic logjam on the expressway that lasted several hours.
The students alleged that despite paying exorbitant levies, the management of the institution had failed to provide them with basic necessities such as water and electricity. They carried empty buckets to highlight their grievances and sang solidarity songs.
Speaking on behalf of the protesting students, one of the demonstrators, who identified himself as Sola, declared that the management had failed in its responsibility to provide for the needs of the students. He added that the protest would continue until the school did the needful.
The protest caused a disruption in the school’s academic activities, as students were unable to attend classes due to the blockade of the main gate. However, security personnel were on hand to prevent the protest from getting out of hand.
The management of the institution is yet to release a statement concerning the protest or address the grievances of the students. Meanwhile, the students have vowed to continue with their demonstration until their demands are met.
