On Wednesday, the Concerned NationBuilders Initiative (CNI) announced a former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, as Epe Division’s Man of the Year at the Epe Division Community Annual Awards (EDCAA) 2023.

The former lawmaker received overwhelming support from voters for the award, polling 44.1% of the vote.

He fended off the competition of other influential Epe indigenes such as Chief Bode Oyedele, Alhaji Dengel Anifowoshe, and High Chief Charles Keshinro, to capture the much coveted award.

The award was more than deserved for Rt. Hon. Ikuforiji, a political icon and progressive leader in his community.

Since the former speaker left public office, he has not retired to the backseat. Rather, he has been a consistent figure in matters involving the development of Epe Division.

His leadership has been felt in Epe and far beyond the town’s boundary.

In April 2023, Segun Adeyina, a member of the Georgia House of Representative from Georgia’s 110th district, United States (US), hailed Ikuforiji, for his “inspiring leadership.”

Adeyina spoke when he welcomed a delegation led by Ikuforiji to Georgia’s General Assembly.

The Georgia lawmaker, who could not hide his excitement at the sight of his countrymen, lauded the former Lagos speaker, saying Nigerians in elected offices in the United States (US) were following his footsteps.

“It is my deepest joy to see my people from home in Nigeria checking on us here, especially Rt Hon Ikuforji,” he said.

“Sir, we are following your foot paths here. Remember you are a 4-star general as a parliamentarian.”

He did not arrive at his sound leadership skills by mistake according to his wife, Pastor (Mrs) Mayowa Ikuforiji, who said her first impression of her husband was that he is a caring person.

“I saw that in him that he was very caring. He wants you to be happy; if he sees anyone that is sad, he will try as much as possible to make him happy and he believes he can solve everybody’s problem,” she said in an interview.

Ikuforiji’s wife also spoke about her husband’s values which he holds dear.

“And then he has the fear of God in him. There are certain things he will never do. We have been married for 30 years now; he has never touched alcohol, not even wine,” she said in a 2014 interview.
