Lagos State is taking decisive steps to reinforce its position as a prominent trade hub in Africa by leveraging the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Eko Hot Blog reports that this was made evident during a strategic meeting chaired by the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, Mrs Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, along with the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olugbemiga Aina.
Emphasizing the state’s commitment to AfCFTA, the Commissioner described it as the future of trade in Lagos.
The focus of the meeting was on positioning Lagos as a leader in Africa’s trade revolution, leveraging AfCFTA as a transformative tool for economic growth, job creation, and regional integration.
Her words: “With a deliberate focus on building capacity, fostering innovation, and ensuring standardisation, Lagos is set to unlock the immense potential of AfCFTA.”
The strategic meeting of the Lagos State Technical Working Group on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) centered on a shared vision of promoting intra-African trade by Africans, with Lagos playing a pivotal role in advancing this ambitious continental trade agenda.
The roadmap set forth by the Technical Working Group represents a significant leap toward achieving an integrated and prosperous Africa, with Lagos at the forefront of this transformative journey.
By aligning its trade strategy with the objectives of AfCFTA, the state aims to harness the potential of an interconnected African market, thereby bolstering Lagos’ economy and generating new opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs.
