Eto’o glad AFCON 2022 has commenced
EKO HOT BLOG reports that President of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o Fils, has vowed that “African football will shine like never before”.
Eto’o’s pronouncement is coming as the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022 gets underway in his country. Hosts Cameroon came from behind to defeat Burkina Faso 2-1 in the first game of the 2022 AFCON on Sunday.
The Indomitable Lions went behind in the 24th minute when Gustavo Sangare side-footed home a neat volley after Cameroon struggled to clear a corner, but two Vincent Aboubakar penalties gave them the lead in the first half, and eventually ensured they collected maximum points.
“After nearly three years since Africa’s biggest and brightest players last came together on the football pitch, we’re finally ready for #AFCON2021. It has not been an easy journey, but thanks to an incredible team of seasoned and passionate professionals, African football will shine like never before,” Eto’o wrote on his verified Facebook page at the weekend.
