Super Eagles won their opening match of AFCON 2022 1-0
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Super Eagles interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen says his Nigerian side believed they could win, hence, they weren’t surprised by what they achieved against Egypt on Tuesday.
Nigeria defeated Egypt in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener on Tuesday, with Leicester City star Kelechi Iheanacho scoring the goal needed to lead the Super Eagles to victory. Iheanacho’s goal came in the 30th minute, helping lead Nigeria past Mohamed Salah’s Egypt in their Group D opener.

“Pulling up a win against Egypt was a surprise to many people but that was not a surprise to us,” Goal quotes Eguavoen as saying.
“We respected them, and we put in all our best to secure victory today.
“I told the new boys ‘play every game like you are going to play a final’, so we will take it game after game.
“This game is gone, we have forgotten about it and we will focus on our next game.”
Nigeria next face Sudan in their second Group D encounter on Saturday and victory over Burhan Tia’s Falcons of Jediane will see the 2013 African kings through to the Round of 16 with a game to spare.
