AFCON Games For Tuesday

  • Action continues on Tuesday at the Afcon

EKO HOT BLOG reports that action continues in the AFCON currently taking place in Cameroon. Here are some of the games and predictions.

Gabon vs Morocco

Gabon head into this game following on from a 1-1 Africa Cup of Nations draw against Ghana.

In that match, Gabon managed 48% possession and 14 shots on goal with 3 on target. The scorer for Gabon was Jim Allevinah (88′). On the other side, Ghana got 6 attempts at goal with 1 on target. André Ayew (18′) was the scorer for Ghana.

Gabon haven’t been able to stop scoring goals, netting every time they’ve gone out to play in their last 6 matches.

They have managed to rack up 7 during that time while also conceding a total of 6. That pattern won’t necessarily be carried forward here, however.

Morocco will come into the game following on from a 2-0 Africa Cup of Nations win over Comoros in their last match.

In that game, Morocco managed 59% possession and 19 shots at goal with 9 on target. For Morocco, goals were scored by Selim Amallah (16′) and Zakaria Aboukhlal (89′). Comoros had 7 shots at goal with 0 of them on target.

A succession of outstanding performances from the Morocco defensive players has resulted in the number of goals they’ve conceded standing at 1 from their past 6 clashes in total. Over that same period of time, the number of goals that they have scored themselves amounts to 16.

Prediction

Gabon must be fancied to find the back of the net against this Morocco side, although just one goal might not be enough to give them the result that they want.  A 1-2 victory for Morocco when the full-time whistle blows, is the prediction for this game.

Ghana vs Comoros

The black stars of Ghana have been unconvincing so far at the 2021 AFCON and going into their final Group C game, they are at risk of getting dumped out. They face Comoros who have already lost two matches while Ghana have a point only in their opening two matches. Ghana have no win in their last three matches and in the last five, they’ve managed just one win and have failed to score in two. A scuffle that ensued after conceding late to draw 1-1 with Gabon on Match Day 2 will see Ben Tetteh locked out of the Comoros game as he was red carded after the match. Ghana are one of the giants of Africa but going into this game they have a very poor run, with just two wins in 10 AFCON matches. They also have just two clean sheets in 10 AFCON. Andre Ayew, their skipper, has four goals in the last 10 AFCON matches and he will be a player to watch after his goal against Gabon.

Comoros are having their first ever feel of the AFCON competition and as it is, they won’t be able to write a fairy tale, as they are staring at an early exit. They haven’t scored a goal at this competition and their most recent game ended in a 2-0 loss to Morocco. That was their fifth straight winless game in competitive action. They are also not very good in defence, having managed just three clean sheets in the last 11 matches while in four of their last eight matches, they’ve conceded two goals or more. Ghana and Comoros have faced off twice before, but that was way back in 2015 when Ghana won 2-0 at home and they drew 0-0 in Comoros in World Cup qualifiers. As they resume their rivalry, Comoros will be hoping they can finally get a goal.

Prediction

This is likely going to be a comprehensive 3-0 winning scoreline for Ghana after 90 minutes.
