- The Super Eagles camp came alive in Lagos on Sunday as it’s Europe-based stars began to arrive for their all-important, double-header African Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Squirrels of Benin and Lesotho this weekend.
- The last set of matches were being prosecuted in Europe before the international break last weekend.
- The Nigerian camp was abuzz as some players not engaged in important league and cup games in their designated countries decided to arrive early.
At least 5 players and a smattering of other team personnel were spotted at the Eko Hotels & Suites, venue of the team’s camping for their twin AFCON games against Benin away and Lesotho in Lagos.
Fulham defender, Ola Aina, William Troost-Ekong, and Semi Ajayi were seen together as they posed for photographs at the upscale hotel lobby just as the Galatasaray FC duo of Henry Onyekuru and Oghenekaro Etebo (on loan from English team, Stoke City) took another set of photos, wearing their face-masks.
As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG , The Eagles travel first to Cotonou to play the Squirrels away on Saturday, March 27 in their 5th game of the qualifiers before returning to play the Crocodiles of Lesotho in the 6th and final game of the series at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos on Tuesday, March 30.
The Nigerian team which currently tops the table with 8points from 4 matches need at least a win and a draw to book their place in the finals scheduled for Cameroun, January 2022.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had been forced to move the tournament originally billed to hold this summer to next year because of the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Lesotho game in particular, takes on a special significance because it’s the first competitive game the national team will be playing in Lagos in 10 years.
