AFCON Qualifiers: Eguavoen Unveils 22-Man Squad For Libya Double-Header

Head Coach Augustine Eguavoen has named a 22-man squad, including Captain William Ekong, rising star Ademola Lookman, and in-form winger Moses Simon, for Nigeria’s home-and-away 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against Libya’s Mediterranean Knights this month.

The squad features wing-backs Olaoluwa Aina and Bruno Onyemaechi, goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali and Maduka Okoye, defenders Oluwasemilogo Ajayi and Calvin Bassey, and midfielders Wilfred Ndidi, Raphael Onyedika, and Alex Iwobi. Forward options include Taiwo Awoniyi, Victor Boniface, and Samuel Chukwueze.

Notably, reigning African Player of the Year Victor Osimhen is out due to injury, along with centre-back Olisa Ndah. However, Bright Osayi-Samuel returns after missing the previous matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda, and playmaker Chidera Ejuke is back after a long absence.

Veteran striker Kelechi Iheanacho is also included, along with midfielders Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi, and Frank Onyeka.

The Super Eagles will face Libya at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, October 11, before traveling to Benghazi for the return leg at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium on Tuesday, October 15.
