Eko Hot Blog reports that the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has concluded public voting in the Best Actor or Actress in a Leading or Supporting Role categories for its upcoming event in May 2024.
In a departure from the previous system, winners in these categories will now be determined by a select jury instead of public voting, addressing concerns about the influence of social media following on the results.
A total of 16 categories, including Best Lead Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Director, Art Direction, Cinematography, Costume Design, Best Writing in a Movie and TV Series, Best Movie and TV Series, Best Short Film, Best Documentary, and Best Sound Design, Editing, and Makeup, will be non-voting.
Meanwhile, eight categories, such as Best Scripted Africa Magic Original, Best Unscripted Africa Magic Original, Best Digital Content Creator, Best Indigenous Language (for West, East, and Southern Africa), Best Multichoice Talent Factory Film, and Best Indigenous Africa Magic Original, will remain open for audience voting.
