AFTRA Trains 300 Teachers In Kaduna State.
Kaduna state government says it will continue to do everything possible toward improving the educational sector in the state to meet global standard.
State Commissioner for Education Dr. Shehu Usman Muhammad stated this during the opening ceremony at the ongoing five – day training workshop organized by Africa Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authority, AFTRA for 300 selected secondary school teachers at the kaduna state University, Kasu.
Represented by the permanent Secretary of the ministry Mrs . Phibi Yayi Sukai, the commissioner said the training workshop was targeted at building the capacity of teachers in the state to enhance their performance.
Shehu Usman Muhammad explained that the state had put in place several measures toward improving the quality of education such as recruitment of qualified teachers, training and retraining as well as providing a conducive atmosphere and relevant materials to aid teaching and learning.
He added that, education had been at the front burner in the state as government was doing everything possible to ensure every child had access to quality and compulsory free education with improved personal relationship with teachers and parents.
Executive Director (Academics) of AFTRA Prof. Steve Nwokeocha applauded the kaduna state governor Mal. Nasiru Ahmed El’rufai for his courage and massive investment in education to ensure the sector is being repositioned to meet global standard.
He said AFTRA being a Federation of statutory agency for 55 countries in Africa is saddled with the responsibility of registering teachers and regulating the teaching profession to ensure quality teacher education and development.
According to Prof. Nwokeocha, the training workshop was part of effort to ensure that kaduna state produced teachers that meets AFTRA requirement at African level to checkmate quark mire in the system.
Describing teaching as a profession, the AFTRA Academic Director pointed out that a teacher is one that has been trained in an accredited institution and certified by the relevant authority- Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN.
IN an address, AFTRA Consultant Professor Magnut Mankilik said the idea behind the workshop was also to look at the educational curriculum as fashioned out by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, NERDC where new ideas have been fused into the system to exposed learners to entrepreneurial skills.
The Educational Consultant explained that the program had put together a module and educational materials where different topics and subjects were analyzed to enable teachers interpret the curriculum which would also aid them in impacting knowledge and skills to learners.
He noted that the event brought together seasoned teachers with wealth of experience and ideas to share with the upcoming professionals toward enhancing their performance in the system.
The timely event was climax with paper presentation by coordinator Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN Mrs. Esther Ayuba Natsa on “Professional Standard For Teaching Profession In Secondary School In Nigeria”, as well as goodwill message by the AFTRA desk officer in kaduna State Mrs. Salomi Kennedy Gwamma among others.
