The fire explosion was said to have happened at 17, Obalabi Street, off Governor Road at about 7:20pm in Ikotun where residents alerted the fire service.

Men of the Lagos State Fire Rescue Team put off the fire but the furniture in the building had caused it to explode.

The fire was said to be put off by two Fire Crews of the Lagos Fire Team which on arrival met the fire well alight before resulting in an explosion.

It was reported that the explosion occurred due to the inflammable furniture materials traded on the ground floor of the two-storey penthouse building.

While putting off the fire, an explosion from the chemical-induced materials consequently resulted in the collapse of the building.

According to the Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret, there were no casualties as all the occupants are safe.

“Operational Firefighting is wrapping up as damping down progress with no record of casualty as occupants of d building are safe.”

The Fire service team was able to rescue properties close to the explosion area.

Although the cause of the fire is unknown, the Fire service promised to begin an investigation which will be made available to the public.
