Again, Two Containers Fall In Lagos, Continuing Dangerous Trend

  • The dangerous trend of falling containers in Lagos continued on Saturday as two containers fell along Lagos-Badagry Highway.

  • The incident comes a day after five containers fell in different areas of Lagos.

  • The Lagos government continues to struggle to fix the problem.

Eko Hot Blog reports that two loaded 20 feet containers on Saturday fell on the road at Iyana era inward Okoko, along Lagos-Badagry expressway.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) made the disclosure in a Facebook post on Saturday morning.

The agency said there were officials on ground trying to clear the area.

“Report of a fallen articulated vehicle laden with two loaded 20ft containers spilled its content on the road at Iyana era inward Okoko, along Lagos-Badagry expressway,” it said.

“Counter flow is in progress, backlog at Asiribo. Personnel on ground managing the situation while effort is on to get the impediments off the road.”

Recall that at least five 40ft containers fell in different areas of Lagos State on Friday.

The incidents happened at Ikeja Underbridge, Mile 12, Ketu, Ojuelegba, and Ago-Palace areas of the state.

Fortunately, no casualty was recorded in all latest incidents.

In January, after a container fall killed nine bus passengers. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu directed the Lagos Ministry of Transportation and Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) to meet urgently to find a lasting solution to the menace of falling trucks.

He also directed the enforcement of the laws governing the operations of trucks.
