“Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi, Nazir Laja, and the rest of the squad trained ahead of NPFL 2024/25 Matchday 5 clash against Sunshine Stars this weekend,” the club said via X on Friday.
The 31-year-old Ahmed Musa is rejoining Kano Pillars for a third stint, having previously played for the club in the 2009/10 and 2021 seasons.
Meanwhile, Shehu Abdullahi is returning for his second spell at Pillars, after a previous stint in 2012.
The defensive midfielder has been a free agent since January 2023, while Musa terminated his contract with Turkish side Sivasspor in February.
Despite the NPFL 2024/25 summer transfer window being closed, both Super Eagles players are able to join the squad as free agents.
NPFL head of competitions, Sunday Obaseki, confirmed this to our correspondent after Musa hinted at his return to the Nigerian topflight.
“Yes, he can be registered. Ahmed Musa will be on the Transfer Matching System, so he won’t have a problem,” Obaseki said.
Reigning NPFL champions Rangers International showed interest in signing Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa before his return to former club Kano Pillars.
Musa’s first stint with Pillars in 2009 saw him finish the season as the league’s top scorer with 18 goals, paving the way for a move to Dutch Eredivisie side VVV Venlo.
His European career included notable spells at CSKA Moscow and Leicester City, before a move to Saudi Arabia where he featured for Al Nassr.
