EKO HOT BLOG reports that Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, had disrupted operations at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos last week after he was denied boarding on a scheduled flight. The former Edo State governor accused the airline of extortion and poor treatment, a claim Air Peace described as unfounded and misleading.
Appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Adeyemi clarified that the senator missed his flight and was not targeted or mistreated. He addressed a viral video showing a staff member speaking to Oshiomhole in a corner of the terminal, noting that the official was merely explaining the airline’s procedures.
“Nobody cornered him,” Adeyemi said. “Given his status, the staff was respectfully explaining that he had missed the flight and would have to pay a no-show fee and a fare difference to reschedule.”
He noted that the airline applies industry-standard aviation policies. “Charging a no-show fee when a passenger misses a flight is not extortion,” Adeyemi said. “This is normal practice across the industry.”
Adeyemi further debunked Oshiomhole’s claim of checking in online. He stated that the airline’s backend systems showed no record of such check-in, which would have automatically generated a boarding pass with seat details.
“He never checked in online,” Adeyemi added. “If he had, his name would have appeared in our system. But it didn’t.”

He explained that Oshiomhole arrived at the airport after 6 a.m., well after the check-in deadline for the 6:30 a.m. flight. “Our check-in closes 45 minutes before departure. By the time he arrived, the aircraft door had already been shut.”
The airline maintains that it followed all standard procedures and rejects the senator’s accusations as baseless.
