Air Peace Flight Grounded After Bird Strike at Abuja Airport

An Air Peace flight bound for Lagos was unexpectedly grounded on Thursday morning following a bird strike at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The flight, scheduled to depart at 6:30 a.m., was already on the runway and ready for takeoff when the incident occurred.

Inibehe Effiong, a Lagos-based human rights lawyer who was onboard, recounted the experience on social media. He said, “While taxiing on the runway just before takeoff, our Air Peace flight from Abuja to Lagos was abruptly stopped, causing panic and screams from some passengers.

The captain informed us that the delay was due to a bird strike. We were deboarded and asked to wait for either a replacement aircraft or repairs to be made.”

Effiong expressed relief that the incident occurred before takeoff, saying, “Thankfully, it happened before we took off. If it had occurred in the air, it would have been much scarier.”

Air Peace acted swiftly, replacing the affected aircraft, and passengers were allowed to reboard within 30 minutes. However, Effiong raised concerns about the effectiveness of bird control measures at the airport, a sentiment echoed by other passengers who shared their experiences on social media.
