Five people were reportedly killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza on Saturday, including individuals associated with the humanitarian organization World Central Kitchen (WCK). The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said the strike targeted a person allegedly involved in the 7 October attacks on Israel.

According to the Palestinian state-run news agency Wafa, the strike took place in Khan Younis, a city in southern Gaza. Among the deceased was the director of WCK’s kitchens in the region, while unconfirmed reports suggest two additional victims were also WCK employees.

EDITOR’S PICKS

Photographs shared on social media depicted a white saloon car, partially burned and with its roof crushed. Videos from a morgue showed charred personal items, including clothing, a laptop, and an ID badge bearing the WCK logo.

In a statement, the IDF said it had targeted a “terrorist” involved in the 7 October attacks, specifically the assault on the Nir Oz kibbutz. The military added that the individual had been under surveillance and was struck after “credible intelligence” confirmed their location. However, the IDF acknowledged the vehicle was a “civilian unmarked car” not designated for aid transport.

The IDF called for “clarifications and an urgent investigation” from WCK and the international community regarding the employment of workers allegedly linked to terrorist activities.

This incident follows an earlier controversial strike in April, when an Israeli airstrike on an aid convoy killed seven WCK workers, including three British security personnel. The event sparked international condemnation and led to a temporary suspension of WCK operations in Gaza. The IDF later admitted “grave mistakes” had occurred and dismissed two senior officers.

World Central Kitchen has been approached for comment on the latest incident.
