Despite former Governor Ambode losing the opportunity to return for a second term in office due to political reasons, it is an incontestable fact that he made excellent strides in the governance of the state.

Moreover, the former Lagos governor’s journey to being the governor of Lagos started from his humble days as a young, hardworking, and purpose-driven civil servant.

As a young civil servant, he was known for excellent service delivery, and it’s no surprise that he quickly rose through the ranks to hold the highest office in the state. His sojourn through various sectors of the civil service prepared him well for governance. A finance expert par excellence, the former governor was a Council Treasurer and Auditor General for Local Government.

Former Governor Ambode was also a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance before securing the position of the Accountant-General of Lagos State, a civil service career-high. Throughout his time in the Ministry of Finance, he made significant changes that enhanced service delivery. He took this effective leadership style with him to the governor’s office in Alausa on May 29, 2015.

Ambode’s strong background and experience of how government works helped him hit the ground running once he was sworn in as governor. His signature projects in the area of infrastructure development in the five divisions that make up Lagos State have ensured a better living standard for Lagosians.
