An Illustrious son of Epe, Alhaji Olalekan Akodu, has emphasized the importance of having businesses owned by Epe Indigenes in the ancient town, saying such will accelerate development of the town.

Akoju implored Indigenes of Epe particularly those in the diaspora to leverage on the plethora of business opportunities springing up and invest in Epe town.

He cited the emergence of industrial and road projects in the Epe corridor is an indication that in the not too distant future, Epe will be the Economic hub of Lagos State.

He was speaking on the heels of the recent attack on electronic shop, Fleak Ventures, Alrisku, along Lagos Road, Epe, Lagos State around 2 am on 21st January 2020.

Akodu, in an interview with Ekohotblog, noted that Epe Local Government needs to overhaul the Local Security architecture of the town while also stating that the robbery incident would not discourage his resolve to invest in his beloved hometown.

” The urbanises of Epe town due to massive local migration, industrialization of that area due to activities of Free Trade Zone and Dangote Refinery now requires more focus on the internal security of the town. The Local Government Administrators needs to pay more attention to the insecurity in Epe and assist both the Local Vigilante and Police Force with Vehicles and basic operation items to provide first level intervention in similar cases in the future.

“As regard investing in Epe, my attitude has always been, no foreigner of outsider would come and invest in your locality, if the environment is not made conducive by those of you who are locals. Epe is the new haven of investment in Lagos State. In another five years, the vision is clear, with the various initiatives and projects coming up around the Epe area, especially the Lekki Deep Sea Port, the Dangote Petrochemicals and Refinery, the developments in the Northern part of the Free Trade Zone – Alaro City, the proposed Epe International Airport, the ongoing reconstruction of Ijebu Ode- Epe Road and Eleko-Epe link roads, I bet, Epe town will become the economic life wire of Lagos State.

“I therefore appeal to all my brothers and sisters of Epe origin to come back home and invest. The future is bright. We will continue to engage the stakeholders to improve the security of lives and properties in the town.

“The incident has not and will not dampen our morale, because worse or similar things do happen elsewhere. A lot of small and big-time investors suffered worst incident and losses during the last #Endsars protest. So, we should be thankful to God, my good people in Epe, especially Honourable Arebi and men of the Nigerian Police Force for their swift and prompt response, ” he stated.

” In the wake of insecurity challenges bedevilling the country from all angles, Epe and Lagos State has no doubt had its fair share of criminal activities which are capable of signalling an unsecured business environment. It is on this note that Alhaji Akodu has, not minding the financial loss, called on Government at all levels and all concerned stakeholders to redouble efforts at making adequate provisions for Security Personnel to carry out operations effectively while also protecting them.

” As you are already aware, the level of insecurity in Nigeria is a daily sing-song from all Nigerians. To say that there is no governance at all levels of Government in the Country is to restate the obvious. Financial loss aside, I am so worried with the lives of the Security men, both Local and Regular that are being endangered daily. Without adequate operational vehicles, tools, and gadgets, there is no way the Security men could face this daring Robbers. We need to do more to support the Nigerian Police Force and the Local Vigilantes.

“We need to build confidence in our people to adopt the approach of Local Intelligence- if you see something, say something. So also, entrepreneurs should maintain good relationships with their neighbours and do some CSR, no matter how little. The advantage of local intelligence from good neighbours saved the day “, he said.
