EKO HOT BLOG reports that Senator John Akpanudoedehe, Secretary of the All Progressives Congress Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee, returned to the APC’s Wuse 2 headquarters on Tuesday amid tight security and jubilation among party staff.
This online media platform recalls that some governors, including Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, have called for the removal of Akpanudoedehe and the chairman of the caretaker committee, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni.

The plan was for Niger State Governor Abubakar Bello to be installed as the APC’s substantive caretaker chairman at a National Executive Committee meeting on March 17, 2020. The attempt, however, was thwarted by a letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission confirming Buni’s leadership.
INEC also stated that only correspondence from Buni and Akpanudoedehe would be accepted.
After being reaffirmed by INEC and the APC, Akpanudoedehe returned to the party secretariat on Blantyre Street on Tuesday morning and was escorted to his office by four AK-47 wielding police officers.
Many APC employees were seen cheering and celebrating the return of the caretaker secretary.
In the last two years, the APC has been embroiled in a crisis that resulted in the ouster of its former Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
Although things had calmed down for a few months, the crisis flared up again after the local government and state congresses, resulting in the formation of factions in at least 13 states.
In addition, at least 208 court cases have stymied peace efforts, and the party’s national convention has been postponed four times since December 2020.
The party’s national convention is now scheduled for March 26, 2022. However, the party has yet to begin selling forms or reach an agreement on who will serve as its national chairman.
