Akwa Ibom Assembly Passes State Map Bill To Law

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has passed a state bill into the law.

The bill is intended to provide a state map amongst other related matters, which was stated to take off following the plenary sitting on Thursday, April 13, 2023.

The State map bill as reported, will reduce communal conflicts and agitations, enhance and promote development within the mapped-out boundaries.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has passed a bill into law that will provide a state map and other related matters. The new law, titled the Akwa Ibom State Map Establishment Law 2023, was passed during a plenary session on Thursday and is set to take effect from April 13, 2023.
The bill was sponsored by Hon. David Lawrence, a representative from Eket, and co-sponsored by nine other members of the assembly.

The Joint Committee on Lands and Housing, Boundary and Conflict Resolution, and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs presented a report on the bill during the plenary session. The report was presented by Sir Udo Kierian Akpan, representing Oruk Anam State constituency.
According to the report, the bill will reduce communal conflicts and agitations, enhance and promote development within the mapped-out boundaries, and enhance cultural affinities of the people within the boundaries. The bill will also assist in the proper identification and allocation of resources domiciled in the component units.
The report further recommended that all government White Papers on boundary issues across the state should be taken into consideration and implemented without delay.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Aniekan Bassey, who presided over the plenary, directed the Clerk, Mrs. Nsikak Orok, to transmit clean copies of the bill to Governor Udom Emmanuel for assent.
The passage of the Akwa Ibom State Map Establishment Law 2023 is expected to bring about positive changes in the state.
