Akwa Ibom Disbands Task Force For Arresting Journalist Over Photo
The Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency has suspended the task force who arrested a journalist for taking photographs of the task force while raiding a shop.
It could be recall that the journalist, Mary Ekere, was arrested by the officials of the task force some weeks ago.
The head of the agency, Prince Ikim, revealed the suspension of the task force in a press statement on Friday.
Ikim said that the task force which was headed by Charles Ituen is “suspended with immediate effect”.
“The suspended team is advised to hand over all documents and equipment of the Agency in their possession to the Head of Administration/ Supplies,” Ikim added.
The agency further revealed that its had employed the services of a Vigilante Group of Nigeria to enforce the state’s environmental laws.
Meanwhile, the attorney general of Akwa Ibom State, Uwemedimo Nwoko, has distanced the governor of the state, Udom Emmanuel from the molestation of the female journalist arrested by the task force.
It was gathered that Mary Ekere spent two nights in detention and took the intervention of Governor Emmanuel before she was released.
