This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by Otunba Moses Olafare, the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Oba Ogunwusi praised Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for fostering a conducive environment and ensuring a smooth transition, culminating in the selection of a new Alaafin. He also applauded the patience and maturity exhibited by the kingmakers, royal families, and the people of Oyo during the sacred process, which spanned over two years.

The Ooni emphasized that the appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter of prosperity, unity, and cultural preservation for Oyo town.

“Historically, Oyo and Ile-Ife share an inseparable bond rooted in divine origins and cultural preservation. Oyo remains a vital crown jewel of Yorubaland. This interconnected lineage highlights the importance of the Alaafin’s throne as a cornerstone of Yoruba traditional governance and heritage. The emergence of Prince Abimbola Owoade as Alaafin-elect reaffirms the enduring strength of our cultural legacy,” he stated.

Oba Ogunwusi expressed confidence in the Alaafin-elect’s ability to uphold and enhance the legacy of his predecessors, particularly the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III. He urged Prince Owoade to embrace his new role as a father to all, uniting former contenders and stakeholders for the growth and development of Oyo town, stating, “Leadership is a collective effort, and no one can succeed alone.”
