Alara Bags African Union Cultural Ambassador Nomination

Africa’s biggest continental bloc, African Union has nominated His Royal Majesty, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Telade IV, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom as cultural ambassador to the Economic, social and cultural council of the union.

This was contained in a letter dated October 26, 2021, and signed by Mr Oba Olasunkanki, Nigerian representative at the third permanent General Assembly of the AU-ECOSOCC, and made available to Eko Hot Blog.

Alara’s nomination follows a contingent desire by the bloc to promote Africanism through the foremost custodians of African culture and tradition in the continent.

The union, which is currently promoting the “Agenda 2063” believes Africa can take gigantic leaps towards self-reliance and also set the pace on the global stage by reaching deep into what makes us African.

The letter reads in part: “The office of the Nigerian representative of the African Union Economic, social and cultural council (AU–ECOSSOC) presents its compliments to Kabiyesi Alara of Ilara, Oba Olukayode Ogunsanwo and has the honor to nominate you as the CULTURE AMBASSADOR to AU–ECOSSOC Nigeria.”

“AU–ECOSOCC has the mandate to promote and popularize the Union’s policies and programmes especially in the area of Culture, this requires that the Council’s national chapter liaise with notable leaders in Nigeria to carry out its activities such as promotion of Culture, Art and Heritage which falls under aspiration 5 of the African Union Agenda 2063 “The Africa We Want”.

“AGENDA 2063 is Africa’s blueprint and masterplan for transforming Africa into a global powerhouse of the future. It is the continent’s strategic framework that aims to deliver on its goal for inclusive and sustainable development, a concrete manifestation of the Pan African drive for unity, self-determination, cultural Renaissance, freedom, progress and collective prosperity pursued under Pan-Africanism.”

“Agenda 2063 encapsulates not only African’s aspirations for the future but also identifies key flagship programmes which can boost Africa’s economic growth and Cultural development which will lead to rapid transformation of the continent.”

In the light of the aforementioned, we use this medium to seek your service as CULTURE AMBASSADOR to partner with the African Union ECOSSOC Nigeria National Chapter for the development of Africa cultural sector.”

According to the union, Alara’s nomination follows his conviction and vast wealth of experience and immense contribution to the development of the cultural sector in Nigeria.

“We have unalloyed belief that your experience, passion, vision and initiatives will benefit the council in Nigeria and Africa at large,” the letter read further.

Oba Ogunsanwo, who was crowned Telade IV after a distinguished career in public service has continued to garner encomiums and adulations in less than two years on the throne.

Recently, the charismatic Oba was honoured by the London Political Summit for his stellar leadership strides and for serving as a beacon of hope and purpose for many subjects and progenies around the world.
