Alec Baldwin Wraps Filming A Year After Accidentally ‘Killing’ Cinematographer

  • Following the accidental shooting of Halyna Hutchins by Alec Baldwin, the Hollywood actor finishes filming on the film Rust.

  • Baldwin had being in a legal battle after the tragic incident.

  • Alec Baldwin who also serves as a producer on the film, took to his Instagram to announce the end of production.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that after a lengthy and troubled production process, actor Alec Baldwin has wrapped up filming on the film Rust, almost 19 months after the tragic on-set shooting that resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Baldwin, who is also a producer on the Western drama, took to Instagram on Monday to share a photo from his final day of shooting.

The picture featured his 14-year-old co-star Patrick Scott McDermott, and in the accompanying caption, Baldwin praised McDermott’s talent and expressed optimism for his future in the industry.

He also posted a selfie sporting a clean-shaven face, remarking on the relief of shedding his character’s beard.

Set in 1880s Kansas, Rust tells the story of a teenage boy, portrayed by Brady Noon, who must navigate life on his own after the death of his parents.

Baldwin plays the role of Harland Rust, the estranged grandfather of the boys, who comes to their aid when one of them faces a death sentence for accidentally killing a local rancher.

The film also features Jensen Ackles, Travis Fimmel, and Frances Fisher in key roles.

Tragedy struck the set in New Mexico on October 21, 2021, when a gun being handled by Baldwin discharged, fatally injuring Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Baldwin has maintained that he was unaware the gun contained live ammunition and did not intentionally fire it.

Both Baldwin and the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, were charged with involuntary manslaughter earlier this year. However, charges against Baldwin were dropped in April, with prosecutors stating the need for further investigation and forensic analysis.

The ongoing investigation and legal proceedings have resulted in multiple lawsuits being filed against Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed by crew members and Hutchins’ family. These legal actions allege unsafe working conditions on the set of Rust.

Filming for Rust resumed in Montana just over three weeks ago, with Matthew Hutchins, Halyna Hutchins’ widower, serving as an executive producer as part of a settlement reached in a wrongful death lawsuit against Baldwin and the production team.

While the completion of filming marks a significant milestone, the release date for Rust remains uncertain.
