ALERT: Ijora-Olopa Bridge Is Inaccessible. Here Are Alternative Routes
-
A section of the bridge reportedly failed on Wednesday, rendering it unsafe.
-
The federal government attributed the failure to theft by some miscreants who tampered with its major reinforcement elements.
-
The federal and state governments have released alternative routes.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Deck-on-Pile Bridge at Ijora-Olopa inbound Ijora-Oloye has failed and is inaccessible to motorists.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, made the disclosure in a statement on Thursday.

He said the bridge will be inaccessible pending when repairs will be carried out by the Federal Government.
The following routes have been mapped out to minimise inconvenience;
1. Motorists from Eko Bridge are advised to utilise Iganmu/Sifax to access Ijora Oloye or Apapa.
2. Motorists from Iddo heading to Ijora-Oloye/Apapa will be diverted at the intersection underpass on a contraflow to reconnect at the U-Turn inwards Ijora-Oloye or Apapa.
Meanwhile, the state’s transportation ministry appealed to motorists who make use of the corridor to cooperate with the State’s Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the interventions put in place to manage the traffic.
In a separate statement, Hakeem Bello, spokesperson to the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, said the federal government was working with the state to ensure motorists freely access alternative routes.
Bello said roads leading directly to the bridge such as Costain inward Eko bridge and Carter bridge descent inward Ijora Oloye have been closed.
“The federal controller of works in Lagos has also issued the following traffic advisory to ensure that motorists and other members of the commuting public are able to use alternative routes,” the statement reads.
“From Eko bridge motorists should take Iganmu/ Sifax to Ijora Oloye or Apapa.
