ALERT: NAFDAC Uncovers Illegal Alcohol Factory In Lagos

  • NAFDAC has carried out a significant operation in Lagos State.
  • The operation led the agency to uncover a trade complex where illegal alcohol was being produced.
  • The discovery came some months after a similar factory was found in Abia State.

Eko Hot Blog reports that National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered illegal the production and distribution of various brands of alcoholic beverages were uncovered at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.

The agency disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday.

According to NAFDAC, its Investigation & Enforcement Directorate made the discovery in a recent enforcement operation.

The agency revealed that officers acting on credible intelligence found unauthorised production facilities operating within Shop 34, Shop 17/24, and attachment 17/2 in Niger 4 Plaza.

NAFDAC further revealed that it recovered more than 3,452 cartons of empty and filled bottles of alcoholic beverages, valued at over ₦250 million from the location.

“Acting on credible intelligence, officers discovered unauthorised production facilities operating within Shop 34, Shop 17/24, and attachment 17/2 in Niger 4 Plaza,” the statement reads in part.

“The team found mini plastic mixing tanks, improvised filters, cartons of empty bottles with intact labels, corks, packaging materials, and assorted already produced and packaged drinks.

“Over 3,452 cartons of empty and filled bottles, valued at over two hundred and fifty million naira (₦250 million), were seized and evacuated from the location.”

NAFDAC urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office, send an email to [email protected], or call 0909 763 0506 and 0909 763 0507 (9am – 5pm).

In December 2023, the agency uncovered multiple factories where fake drinks (wines and fizzy drinks) were produced in the Cemetery market in Abia State.
