It was a mixed grill of mirth and gratitude as Lagos socialite, Alhaja Kikelomo Olarinde threw an ornate thanksgiving/housewarming fete in appreciation to God for surviving a malignant onslaught from cancer.
The thanksgiving service, which played host to royal fathers, political functionaries and socialites from Lagos state and beyond took place on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at her country home in Sango-Ota, Ogun State.

Expressing gratitude to God for the miraculous recovery, Alhaja said she was indeed blessed beyond human contemplation to be back to optimum health after her physicians opined that her chances of surviving were slim to non-existent.
“Cancer in my body, we thought it was a joke, but we thank God. They said it had gotten to stage 3, before i went to America. God took control and i thank God for that.”
“I thank everyone that stood by me especially the home i left in Nigeria, they didn’t let the home scatter. They upheld it in my absence.”
“Starting from Alhaja Muhinat, I’m thankful to her, the house we are now, i left it bushy, my Wasiu Useni and his mother, they upheld the house in my absence and I’m thankful to them.”

“I appreciate everybody that was concerned and i really appreciate them. I heal everyday, my body is different everyday that i can’t believe it which is why I’m thankful today. I don’t know how to say it, but I’m really thankful.”

Recounting the celebrant’s ordeal, Otunba TJ Abass, described her story as a perceivably lost cause that was salvaged by the inexplicable hand of God, which makes the thanksgiving more germane and fitting.
“Today is a very special day in her life, in my life and all those who have had the opportunity to cross paths with her over the years. There is a saying that when you recognise that you will live, not in spite of your sorrows, not in spite of your challenges, not in spite of your tribulations, but because of those challenges and sorrows. The word for that is healing, and that is what we are doing here today. It is period of healing. It is a period that we are celebrating gratitude. It is a time to give thanks to God.”
“When the scientists, I remember seven months ago, when they did not give her the chance that she will live to see the next day. God said don’t worry, I’m with you. Her story is a story that she wasn’t thinking beyond seeing the next day, but look at her today, hale and hearty. This is a time to give thanks to God, that is why she is here to count her blessings.”
Prince Sunday Ladipo, Chief of Staff to Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, in an interview with Eko Hot Blog extolled the admirable qualities of the celebrant and ascribed those as the reason why throngs of family and friends had turned out to celebrate her on the day.

“Today’s thanksgiving is something we have been expecting for quite a while and something that we thank God for making it possible because when you start a project, the prayer is that you complete that project successfully, and when you look at the completion of the project you’ll agree with me that this is someone who does not discriminate in terms of ethnicity. She can easily place a project in Lekki or Victoria Island but decided out of the love she has for Awori people and people of Ota to put the project right here and I’m glad that she has been able to complete this successfully.”
