In a country where life expectancy is pegged at 50, it is a thing of rarity, an exception rather than a norm, for anyone to clock 80 and still remain fit as a fiddle.
This is the story of Alhaji Tolani Abbas, the mogaji of the Abbas family worldwide as he becomes an octogenarian today, May 28th, 2020. To have chalked up eight decades on earth is a glorious and magnificent feat that should be celebrated with thrills and pageantry but such cannot be because of the unusual times we are in.
Alhaji is a man of intellect, foresight, impeccable character and sterling records. He’s left an indelible footprint on every sphere of human endeavor he’s embarked on, from his days as tax administrator in the Western region of yore, he rose through the ranks imbibing the culture of dedication, perseverance, hardwork and commitment to become the Head of Service in Lagos when the state was created following the outbreak of the civil War. In all his times as civil servant, Alhaji did not use his privileged position to selfishly accumulate wealth neither did he embark on self-aggrandizement or activities that would feather his nest at the expense of the public. He was ambitious as he was contented.
Alhaji is also a family man, a doting father and a loving husband. He does not joke with his family, and this is exemplified in the structure of his household as wives, children and grandchildren coexist peacefully under one roof. Love and Unity has always been his religion which is the same strategy he employed with Abass dynasty which is instrumental to the strength and cohesiveness of the family.
He lived a fulfilled, modest and exemplary life. His philosophy in life is using his endowed resources to help others climb the ladder of success. He is also a man with an unwavering sense of benevolence and unflinching commitment towards advancing the cause of humanity, his act of altruism can be seen in life-impacting projects embarked on and numerous assistance rendered to friends and acquaintances to enable them rise from the ashes of financial stagnation. These qualities, among others, are what enamoured him to people of his home town in Epe, so much so that they made him the president of the town’s union.
He’s industrious, enterprising, intelligent and ambitious. Everything he touches turns to gold. Having served the government diligently for over two decades, he decided to take a bow and set up his own companies, ABODAD (NIG)CO. AND ALH. TOLANI ABBAS AND SONS, which went on to become a formidable company in the state then, executing government projects and construction works with finesse and excellence.
As part of his drive to contribute his quota to humanitarian services and make the world a better place, he’s also a staunch member and leader of various welfare-based organisations. A patron of Coastal Club Epe. He was Immediate Past President of Epe Development Association, and also a member of EPE CLUB. H
Clocking 80 is not a walk in the park, how much more one that is attained on the heels of tremendous success and accomplishment. It is magnificent milestone. If it is true that our life is like a diary of all of our activities, Alhaji Tolani has kept a good diary of his fulfilled life He has written a beautiful story about his life that generation unborn will have an opportunity to read. This is what true legacy is all about
Congratulations to the Mogaji Of Abass Dynasty. Here’s raising a toast to a life of beauty, one that’s well run, we wish you a continued grace and blessings of God and of this day on earth in sound health and wealth
