Ali Pate, Tunji Alausa Meet With World’s Largest Health Financing Bodies To Strengthen Health Sector
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Ali Pate, and the Minister of State Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, on Monday, met with the coordinators of three of the world’s largest health financing ogranisations.
They are Ambassador Dr. John Nkengasong, the United States (U.S.) Global AIDS Coordinator and Senior Bureau Official for Health Security and Diplomacy; Dr. David Walton, the Coordinator of the U.S. President Joe Biden’s Malaria Initiative, and Peter Sands, the Executive Director at the Global Fund.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the meeting was aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s health sector.
According to Alausa, the meeting was a historic event that reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to fixing the country’s ailing healthcare system.
“Our primary goal was to reassure the Nigerian population of our unwavering commitment to strengthening the healthcare system under our leadership and the Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the minister, who was based in the U.S. before his appointment in August, said.
The meeting was also attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Ms. Daju Kachollom, and U.S. Consulate General’s representative, William B. Stevens.
It came days after Pate and Alausa unveiled a roadmap for fixing Nigeria’s health sector.
The ministers said the Federal Government will digitise the sector and also create a research fund to enhance healthcare delivery across the country.
The senior minister, who acknowledged that the country is suffering from a shortage of healthcare workers, said the new administration is working to incentivize the sector and make it attractive to potential workers.
The health ministry also said it is collaborating with all relevant stakeholders in the health sector to identify areas of improvement and chart that way forward to ensure that Nigerians have access to optimum healthcare.
